Are you a first home buyer looking to escape the rental nightmare once and for all? Well there’s good news! The Queensland government has decided to raise the First Home Owners Grant (FHOG) to $30,000, up from $15,000.

This means that first home buyers have $30,000 to put towards funding their dream of homeownership. Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk described it as a “pre-Christmas bonus” and she believes it will help around 12,000 first home buyers get into the market before the increase expires in 2025.

No1 Property Guide specialises in helping renters get out of the rental nightmare and into their own homes with no or low deposit. Having already helped thousands of renters achieve their homeownership dreams, you could be next.

Who is Eligible for the $30,000 First Home Owners Grant?

The great news is that the eligibility for the boosted First Home Owners Grant hasn’t changed. To be eligible you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have never owned any property in Australia
  • Be looking to purchase a property valued at under $750,000 (including land)

Finally, the grant is only applicable to new homes. Meaning it must either be a newly built home, a contract to build a new home (like one of our full turnkey house and land packages), or be a substantial renovation.

Along with the increase in the size of the grant, the Queensland government also expanded what property types are covered by the grant. The FHOG now covers:

  • Units
  • Duplexes
  • Townhouses
  • Granny Flats
